This may be the first week of June, but the holiday season is really not that far off. Data from Forrester and IBM revealed that U.S. online sales on Cyber Monday continue to outpace Thanksgiving and Black Friday. In addition, mobile shoppers created record-breaking results for retailers and other businesses over the 2014 holiday season as consumers increasingly used smartphones and tablets to browse and buy.

Consider this data from the report:

  • Mobile shopping continues to grow: Online sales via mobile devices increased 8.5% YoY on Cyber Monday
  • One in three purchases were made from a mobile device: 37% of shoppers made purchases using mobile devices on Cyber Monday.
  • Mobile also drove sales on UK Cyber Monday (December 1, 2014): Online sales increased 22.6% over 2013, with mobile percent of sales growing by nearly 30%, reaching 42.9% of all online sales.

IBM Digital Analytics Benchmark expects more mobile momentum for the 2015 holiday season. This shift in the retail landscape will be top of mind for retailers at this week’s Internet Retailer Conference and Exhibition.
