SiteSpect has some impressive employees in its ranks: from industry influencers to mentors, from gamers to publishers. The Employee Spotlight series aims to highlight the talented individuals who work here. We’ll be featuring an interview here on our blog and on our social accounts.
For this month’s Employee Spotlight, we feature Adam Woodworth. Here at SiteSpect, Adam is a principal software engineer.
How long have you worked at SiteSpect?
16 years, with some gaps. I started as the second full-time employee in October 2006 and left full-time in 2017 to focus on photography. I began working on a contractual basis in 2018 and returned to full-time employment in 2022.
Briefly describe your primary responsibilities within your role at SiteSpect. (What does a typical day look like?)
My hands have touched almost every part of the product over the years, but these days I am on the architecture team with a focus on managing our engine code, enhancing our data processing pipeline, and managing our testing platform.
What is it you enjoy most about your job?
Solving problems, building software, and learning new technologies.
In your time at SiteSpect, what has been your favorite project or memory?
Designing our cluster architecture many years ago with Paul Silevitch was a huge project with a lot of fun work. Recently I’ve enjoyed upgrading our database to MariaDB, learning GitLab CI, building out our testing environment, and writing some dashboards to better monitor GitLab CI using Node.js with React and Next.js.
When you aren’t working, how do you spend your free time?
I am a nature/landscape photographer and spend a lot of time photographing around Maine and Atlantic Canada. I have published articles with Outdoor Photographer Magazine, Nikon, Down East Magazine, and others. I’ve also spoken on Nikon’s stage at CES in Las Vegas and PhotoPlus in New York City. In 2021, I published a book titled “Night Sky Photography: From First Principles to Professional Results”. My website is adamwoodworth.com.
List your favorite sports teams/bands/artists:
I like a lot of rock, folk, jazz, and blues, including Led Zeppelin, Jeff Beck, Miles Davis, John Scofield, James Taylor, and many others.
If you could have dinner with 3 people from history who would they be?
Ansel Adams, Albert Einstein, Jimi Hendrix
