Get to Know a Software Engineer

Yue Wu is a Software Engineer here at SiteSpect. He’s part of the team that makes SiteSpect run — whether that’s building new features, addressing bugs, or responding to customer feedback in the product. This month, I sat down with him to learn more about what he does.

What do you do at SiteSpect? What is your day to day like?

I’m a software engineer at SiteSpect. So basically, what I do is implement new features based on client requests or fix any existing issues in the product. These are either based on client feedback or things we discover ourselves.

What specific projects do you work on, or what piece of the software do you work on?

We have a rotation, so I get a chance to work on a variety of projects. Right now we have two parallel projects going on , as well as a pool of small projects or bugs. I’m working on one of the new features currently.

Writing code is like solving problems. So some problems are defined and we know what we’re doing and find the way to improve and solve the problem. Sometimes the problem isn’t defined and so we break it down into smaller pieces, well defined pieces, and then work our way up to resolve the bigger problem.

How long have you been at SiteSpect? How did you end up here? What’s your background in engineering?

Almost 5 years. I actually started in the marketing department working on web updates and campaigns. I then transitioned into development.

My background though is in electrical engineering. In college I also did some web development and transferred more towards software engineering, so I had that background as well.
